The Dead Man
Everybody heard him, the dead man.
His words were a whisper, yet everyone
listened. Some listened with smiles.
Some listened with tears, yet all were solemn,
all were silent, all were aware.
His words were a blanket worn by those
at his grave. He spoke of his loved ones.
He spoke of his life. He spoke of a freedom
so great and surreal they would only believe
him when their own ending drew near.
