Non-American basketball is not only catching up to the US Men's National team but is better already.

While many will not agree despite the fact that USA hasn't won a gold medal in years, which is allegedly because of lack of interest and not knowledge. Some of NBA players are the best in the world, no argument there, but the fact remains more and more non-american players are getting their place in the NBA and are having big roles in their teams, Nowitzki, Parker, Gasol and many many others which makes them the part of the elite too.

Probably, and we will not know until the Olympics in China in 2008, US National Team will finish much higher than it did in the last few tournaments it has yet to be seen if they will get gold.

The ongoing European Championship revealed many secrets and proved some facts believed were myths. Slovenians with 5 NBA players, unfortunately with only 2 participating, are amongst biggest surprises of the EC fighting for the semi-finals with defending champs Greeks and are believed to be big favourites in this game too.

The fact is, many countries produce many great players, not just USA, but the whole show is taking place there so its natural for Americans to believe they are still number 1 in the world, but that is not the truth for a while now and they still have a tough fight to prove otherwise.
