United States used to be a free country, and there used to be something called free enterprise and capitalism, but lobbyist don't quite see it that way. Competition is what creates better products and lower prices, but if you are a drug company or invest in one you want as little competition as possible, so they do whatever they can to limit or eliminate competition. The main problem with this and the really sickening part is that we are talking about people's health and many people die every day because they are not getting the proper treatment. If the government was truly doing its job it would be possible for people to receive the best treatment available, even if it is available outside of our borders. The purpose of government is to ensure the safety of its citizens and to maintain an infrastructure which enables people to choose their own destiny and level of success. The less the government is involved, the better, because that is what freedom is about. There are laws of course to maintain order and to at least strive for justice, but too many laws and especially laws that protect corporations rather than individuals is a dangerous thing.
As long as a medicine is deemed safe through extensive testing and the side affects and interactions are determined then it really should not matter which soil the drugs were produced on. Limiting people, and those sick and dying, from obtaining treatment is morally wrong and should be changed. Medicine and treatment should not be subsidized by the government however, because "universal" and "free" health care is neither universal or free, but that is a whole other subject altogether.
