Exploring San Diego's historical sites are educational and easily-accessible tourist attractions. Conveniently located off Interstate 5, The Hotel del Coronado, Old Town, and Star of India are three of the most unique and entertaining historical sites found within the beauty of the oceanic shores of San Diego.
Hotel del Coronado:
Located on Coronado Island, Hotel del Coronado sits seaside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1888, this historical landmark with ambient surroundings and 70ish year-around temperatures, sits on a small island, which is home to a small family-like community. To crossover to Coronado Island from San Diego, the orthotropic designed bridge eases the drive while providing breathtaking dual views of the city and the island. Providing cozy mom-and-pop shopping, family owned cafs, and bicycling paths, Coronado's affable islanders openly welcome visitors. Known as one of the more famous locations, Hotel del Coronado attracts visitors from all over the world including presidents, actors, actresses, music artists, and princes. And yearly gratifies thousands of new visitors.
Old Town:
Located in the heart of San Diego, Old Town is a small historical site that the entire family will enjoy. Old Town maintains the 1800s time period in which it was built. Established as an historical park, the small one-room school house takes visitors back to the period of horses, carriages, and outhouses; and the candy shop and all-purpose store that were patronized in the 1800s, still services crowds - these days it's vacationers. The original horse stable and blacksmith shop are reminiscent of the period before motor-vehicle travel. Providing a day of historical education, fine dining, and family fun Old Town is an essential site to visit.
Star of India:
Built in 1863, The Star of India is a full-rigged iron windjammer and the world's oldest seafaring ship. Sitting majestically, peering high above its spectators with white sails, the ship is ready to cruise the shores. The Star of India was initially named after the Greek goddess of music, Euterpe. Receiving her new name in 1906 after many years of sailing the rough seas, The Star of India now sits regally allowing vacationers to admire her beauty. The Star of India is a grand historical exploration for under $10.
Visiting, learning, and experiencing the historical sites of San Diego are enthralling family activities. With yearly coastal temperatures, breathtaking vistas of the sea, and fascinating historical landmarks, San Diego awaits to reveal historical tales.
