There are a lot of good Bass players in every genre. Sadly as other papers have said Bassists don't get credited it's not because most Bassists don't try hard i think it's because most focus on the guitar and i don't hear a lot of Bass solos. I do say these are the best bass players alive or dead.
Flea:The only Modern Bassist to fuse Funk with Punk, his basslines are somewhat unconventional and harder to practice with when looking at Tablature. His slap and Pop style is fast and clear sounding when you listen to a lot of Chili Peppers you can actually hear the sounds of the Modulus Bass, and it's funkiness.
John Paul Jones: I don't listen to much of Led Zeppelin but who else can pull off a 3 minute solo of Stairway to Heaven. He must have had a lot of practice and if anyone can play that song i say he's a master Bassist.
Les Claypool: Primus's Bassist also has an unconventional style mixing Metal with Jazz and Funk all in one, most have called him the second Victor Wooten because they're styles are almost alike.
Victor Wooten: The only Bassist to win a Bass Player of the year award three times in a row. His styles mix Bluegrass, funk and jazz all in one. Uses mostly his thumb in place of a pick, how cool is that? He's the only bassist i've seen shred nonstop a Bass Guitar and mostly playing on the neck. Fast styles and uniqueness in his Bass makes him the best in the Jazz genre.
