HOME SWEET HOME:The 5 most important things to look for when purchasing a home are: First, you want to look for comfort. Does it have enough space and bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate your whole family?
Number two is the price. Is it something you can afford? This also includes your mortgage rate. I prefer a fixed mortgage rate as compared to a balloon mortgage or variable one. The interest rate will directly affect your mortgage payment each month.
Number three is the foundation. Take a look around the house and look for cracks on the concrete. A crack doesn't always mean foundation trouble, but the wider the crack the more the trouble.
Number four would be drainage. Happen by the property on a rainy day and get out of your car with an umbrella and take a look at the yard for standing water. Look at the ends of the house to see if you have any drainage problems.
Number five is to have the electric wiring checked out by a certified electrician. He can tell you if you will need a costly rewiring done. Check all the kitchen appliances too.
Another thing to find out is when was the last time the roof was replaced.
Last but not least, have the plumbing checked out.
