With a little imagination a rainy day can become a day of adventure, intrigue and wonder for you and your children. Consider a rainy day as an opportunity to spend quality bonding time with your children. There are many activities that you could enjoy.
For starters, just because it is raining does not mean that you have to spend your time indoors. Bundle up in your rain gear and go outside to explore. Study the effects of rain on nature. See how various forms of wildlife react to the rain. Note ways in which you see wildlife use the rain to their advantage. Take an old coffee can with you and collect dirt and worms in it to use on a future fishing trip.
When you go back inside, after taking a warm bath and changing into dry clothes, gather around in the family room and discuss all the discoveries you made about rain's effects on nature. Write a short story or poem about the rain. Have a contest to see who can write the best one. Gather some books and have a story hour.
After that, consider a game of charades or pictionary. These are interactive fun games that the entire family can join in on. It is also a good time to try something new, such as a new hobby or craft you've always wanted to try. Get out all your craft supplies and everyone gather around the table for some artsy fun.
Need more activities? Why not all work together to redecorate a room in your house? Giving a fresh new look to a room would not only liven up your home but could be tremendous fun for everyone while stimulating imagination and creativity. This doesn't have to be costly. Decorate a wall with stencils and craft paints, if you have fabric and a sewing machine, you could make new curtains for the windows, decorate a few pieces of furniture to match the wall stencils or curtains, ect.
There are still more activities you could enjoy. Sit down with your children and make a family tree or look through family photo albums and scrapbooks and reminisce and share stories of fond memories. You could also bake cookies together or put together a jigsaw puzzle.
These are only a few of many activities you could enjoy with your kids on a rainy day. The possibilities are endless. So the next time it rains, smile. Get ready for a day of fun and amusement for you and your kids!
