Is drug abuse encouraging crime

Drug use seems to have increased each year since the early eighties, many experts say that drug use contributes to more violent crime. It is easy to agree with that statement because it seems once a suspect has been arrested and the toxicology reports come back, that they were under the influence of a narcotic, and society seems to except that theory because if not for that, the crime would not have occurred.

A person could also disagree with the theory that drug use causes more crime. If society in general researched a little on drug use, statistics show that drug users are more likely to harm themselves first, people seem to think that drug use refers to narcotics only, in fact, any over the counter drug can be a narcotic, if the dosage is exceeded. Most people probably do not know, that if you exceed the limit on aspirin, that a person can have convulsions, it can cause an irratic heartbeat, and it could give a person hallucinations.

Society seems to hear only of the hard narcotics that make people do things that they would not usually do other wise, realistically, if aspirin symptoms became known, society would go into a panic attack, it just seems to be easier for society to accept that hard narcotics are to blame for societies problems, even if there might be another cause for the increase in violent crime.
