Not many people are aware of the dangers in Florida Lakes. In the
summer time here in Florida it can be very brutal. So, to cool off we go to the
lakes with our toys. We have a great time with our friends and families, not
knowing that in 3-7 days one of them if not all of them could DIE. There is a
bacteria in the lakes called Amoeba. This bacteria lives on the bottom of the
lake. When the lake reaches 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit it multiplies rapidly. So
in one day this heat the bacteria has now covered the whole lake. With the boats
and the jet skies running all over the lakes, and stirring up the water, the
bacteria has now come from the bottom and is now on top of the lake.
So how does this deadly bacteria enter your body? Well, it goes through the nose. Have you ever jump in the water and got the water forced up your nose? Well, that is
exactly how this bacteria gets in your body. It could also come through your
body if you have ear tubes. So, now the bacteria is in your body. It now needs
to multiply. It sits right behind the puberty gland for 3-7 days. With this
bacteria there you will have no symptoms. This is what makes this a super
bacteria deadly.
Once the symptoms start, there is nothing the doctors can do
for you. The symptoms will start out with a headache. Than they will go to flu
like symptoms. You will have fever, stiff neck, vomiting, and a serve headache.
No med will make the pain go away. Now, that all of these symptoms are present,
you will become very delusional, have seizures, and could even become
unconscious.By this time I would hope that you are in the hospital seeking help.
For there you health will go down hill fast. Within 5days of the first sign a
headache, you would have passed away.
Now, that I have told you what the symptoms are I will tell you what the amoeba is doing to your body. Also, why we have no med to treat this bacteria. When the amoeba enters your body it needs to set and multiply in numbers. Once it has gotten big enough it starts pushing on the brain. What it looks like at this point is a big abscess. Your brain has very little room to move. So, with an abcess pushing on the brain, and the amoeba infection oozing out of the abscess and infecting the brain, it starts to shut down. That is were the term amoeba encephalitis comes from.
So, now you are
wondering why can't our medicine kill this and save our lives. Well, this amoeba
spends so rapidly that our medicines can't work fast enough to stop it. That's
why once the symptoms start the amoeba has already started to infect the brain.
The amoeba is to advanced for us to stop and kill it, our medicines can't work
that fast. So, we lose this fight.
How can we stop it? Well, our first step is
from May until October stay out of the lakes. Our next step is in knowledge. With
this knowledge and knowing that 95% of children are likely to die from amoeba
than adults. I hope this article will help someone and will save someones child.
This month my ten year old son lost his best friend to this amoeba bacteria. In
Florida this has been the third child to have died. No, child should become
victim of this bacteria again. We need to talk about this and get the word out.
I know in some of my statements I was very blunt. You have to bed this is no
sugar coating matter. This is really life and this could happen to you. Please
stay out of the lakes!
