Why Jeff Bagwell should be a first ballot Hall of Famer

If the wish is to further dilute the Hall of Fame then Bagwell belongs. Otherwise- ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Bagwell was a decent player who had a nice career but he is in no way a Hall of Fame player much less a first ballot one! Can anyone honestly say that he was the best player at his position during his career? Of course not- he wasn't even the best player on his own team! Another author bemoans the lack of respect that Houston gets and claims they are seen as a small market team. Well, if the Astros would have won a World Series or two maybe they wouldn't be "perceived" as under-achievers. Isn't Houston one of the top-5 markets in the country? The small market argument doesn't wash. The fact that Bagwell and his team are not really all that good does. If, if, if... sure if Bagwell would have played in another park or if he wouldn't have gotten hurt... The fact is he did play in the Astrodome and he did get hurt. Do they put people in the HOF based on what they "would" have done or what they actually accomplished? Jeff Bagwell had a nice little career and is a favorite of the city of Houston. Maybe the Astros could retire his number but to put him in Cooperstown is a joke!
