Reflections: Days that never come back but stay forever

YESTERDAY'S YOUTH

In the time a few years after the Second World War the youth of the day had a happy and fulfilling upbringing, this story is about the life of one of them,
His life as a happy go-luck boy, he took and gave as good as he got in that life, he remembers the story as if it was just yesterday.
He learned a lot about life as he grew up, There were happy times and there were sad times, It all made up for the person he is now,

The day had came when he just had to go to for his first day in the junior school, I was just five years old and here was my mother taking me away from home, The tears were streaming down my eyes as I just did not want to leave my mother and go to school,On getting to school the teacher Miss Greenhalgh welcomed me in and made me comfortable, though still apprehensive I made it through my first day,
At three fifteen I left school and there was my mother waiting for me, I had never been so glad to see her, I ran most of the way home with joy.
School after that day was easy as I did not do very well in class, one day Miss Greenhalgh who was having a bad day in class due to several of us being naughty, talking whilst she was teaching us, she was going to teach us a lesson, it was the first and only time that I had been punished at school, I was at the end of a row of four boy's who were getting the ruler over the top of our legs, one by one they started to cry, it was my turn she pulled up my short trouser leg and hit the top of my leg several times with the ruler, it did sting a bit, and like the other boy's I cried, never again I said to myself,
School after that day was better as I was always on my best behavior; I knew what was to come if I did not do as I was told,
There was one day when some men came to the school house with a horse and cart with doors that opened sliding upwards, I wondered what they were doing at the school when after coming down from the school house toilet, they emptied the toilet bucket into the cart, I then knew what they were doing, emptying the toilets' they don't do that now,
At the age of eight I moved up to the big class, that was the room next door, this class was run by the headmistress Miss Burgess, I don't know why but I became teachers pet, yes me,
I was made the coke monitor by Miss Burgess, this ensured that I was first in class on all the cold mornings and topped up the fires with coke to warm the classrooms,
I was also made milk monitor this was great as I got to have
