Best job searching sites

Job searches are difficult, long battles. It used to be only networking in person and checking the local classifieds in the area you wished to be employed in, but not any more. The job market is growing and there is a great tool called the internet (some of you may have heard of it) that is very helpful. It is important to know where to look on the world wide web, what some of the dangers are, and how to do it effectively. All these things are easily explained with a little effort and some thought.

The first issue is where to look. Careerbuilder.com or Monster seem like perfect choices, but they are only a few of the job search engines out in the world. It is much simpler to start with a website that does much more than just allow jobs to be posted, which is Indeed.com. Indeed has a job search function, a salary graph for keywords, and several other helpful tools. The best thing is that the job search is very open. It will search Careerbuilder.com, newspaper networks, specialization websites, and other places on the web to compile a list of jobs by keyword or zip code. The reason this helps so much is that it allows you to search many sites with only one physical search, thus saving time. Another great tool they offer is an RSS feed of searches that you perform. Basically, once you perform the search, there is an RSS button. You can click on it and subscribe through your browser or email program (most programs do this, if not, just bookmark it) and the feed will be updated every time something is added to the search results. This may result in quite a few emails a day that show you each job posted, but that is what you want, right?

If you live in a larger city, Craigslist is also a good tool. The rate of hiring from there is shown on a chart which is rather easily accessible. It shows that companies spend less money to post on Craigslist and hire more people that way. You can search by job title, or area, but you have to beware of scams and hoaxes. After a week of checking the information on the site, it becomes rather easy to gather how to spot a scam, but the general rule is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The next thing to think about is the danger of finding a job on the internet. Be wary of jobs that are posted nationwide on Careerbuilder or Monster. Often they are looking for people who are desperate for a job and will do nothing but cause problems for them. Also, look closely at the company that you are thinking of working
