We are just lucky but it won't last. On 9/11 no one would ever have thought of flying a passenger plane into a building but after it happened and we stepped back and looked at it, that showed us the scary intelligence of our enemy. Though I think until that moment most Americans didn't realize we had an enemy that was that willing to do us harm, and I think a lot of people have forgotten.
We are the greatest nation on the earth! It shows in all we do and try to do. Though things don't always turn out the way we intended and all too often we trip over our own feet. We have the greatest military by far and we have a good intelligence gathering group. The problem is who runs the military and intelligence gathering groups.
The military is built and trained to do one thing, that is to kill. They are trained day in and day out on how to kill and how to survive. We have never faced an enemy that our military could not defeat, I believe. I know we have not won every conflict we have ever entered but that wasn't the troops on the ground at fault. The government here that insists on tying the hands of the troops in the field is what leads to defeat.
The troops are the whole reason this country has made it this far and every country on earth is sustained by war. Even those who do not fight are sustained by war they just cower to the closest power and depend on them to fight for them. This country was founded on war, it has survived every war since including the one we had amongst ourselves. The war in Washington D.C. is the one that will destroy us if any ever does.
On the intelligence gathering front, these people are good at what they do they just are too paranoid to share what they know with each other. Secrets lead to occurrences like 9/11. They all knew and had they talked amongst themselves those towers and all those who died would still be with us today.
We are also lucky because our border is absolutely open. No country in their right minds, with a threat to their security such as we have, would leave their borders so open and easily crossed with anything. We can not secure this country and will never be safe until we seal the borders and know what and who is coming across.
Our government is too busy worrying about how much they can get in campaign funds or favors to worry about someone coming across our border with a dirty bomb and intent on blowing up a major American city. I guess it will take a nuclear weapon going off to get them to realize that it is a problem.
Hopefully our government will wake up before such a tragedy happens though I must admit I don't have any faith in that. I just pray we continue to be lucky, oh wait I'm not allowed to pray anymore right? That's for another rant.
