Graduation gifts: Gifts your high school graduate will actually want

The tears are being shed, your child's knees are knocking together, and you are letting out a large sigh as you send your graduate off on the magical journey called "life". All you can think about is whether or not you have prepared them for this very moment. Have you taught them everything they need to know? Do they have everything that they need to make this a successful transition in their life? You may not be able to prepare them for everything but you can show them that you care and how proud you are of them and their achievements.

There are a number of different kinds of gifts that one can select for a graduate. All of these tokens have a range in price, size, and personal needs. For the parent or family member that wants to go all out on the graduation gift, there are many great things to choose from. Some things that almost every graduate will need, include;

1) A laptop This also can range in price. You should really consult with your child on what their brand preferences and needs are. Do they need a PC or a MAC? Do they need a certain amount of memory or do you think you want to add a web cam to it? Not sure what kind of computer to get? Can't afford to purchase the whole thing? No problem, make a contribution to your child's computer fund! There are also some great deals out there, check for refurbished computers, or ones that are a year or two old.
2) An I-pod or MP3 Player This is great for students! Personal music players are especially great for students that will be taking the bus or walking around campus. Drowning out traffic noise with your favorite tunes is a plus for every student. An added bonus to this gift is a speaker system to put in your child's dorm room. These days a bulky stereo system is not ideal for a tiny space, so adding a speaker system that they can dock their MP3 to is just what they need.
3) A Saving's Account - Parents and grandparents will like to make a contribution to their child's future through a savings account. Your student will appreciate the fact that money is being held for a rainy day when they will need it most. Talk about some sort of plan where you both contribute money on a regular basis. This becomes a super gift when you consider the money they will have saved up for after their college or university graduation!
4) Cell Phone/ Phone Card Every parent and student will appreciate the ability to call home whenever they need. To reduce the stress of going away for your first time, give a cell
