The best way to teach a child street smarts is to engage them in real life experiences. Street smarts is not something that can be taught from a book. Although one can read and hear stories of how to be street smart it is not enough. In order to provide these real life experiences, you have to start with a definition of what street smarts is. Defining the concept is half the battle. Backgrounds, culture, race and other factors contribute certain perceptions towards defining street smarts.
Once there is an understanding of what street smarts is, then the next step is to ask yourself why do you want to teach a child this concept. What benefit does teaching a child street smarts have on their lives.
Once this is established, the last step is to provide environmental and real life experiences for children to learn. This is something that has to be done on a consistent basis. These lessons are not learned in individual settings, but multiple ones. In essence, it's a lifestyle not a novelty.
