We are safer now than immediately after 9/11. When the twin towers were hit on 9/11
and it became obvious to many, that there was a terrorist attack taking place, unsuspecting passengers on flight 93 and the plane that hit the pentagon hadn't even been hijacked yet. Americans weren't aware of the danger they were in having never confronted a terror attack of such magnitude.

Awareness of the methods and tactics used by terrorists in the aftermath of 9/11 disseminated to the public by the media has helped to make America safer. Americans are now more vigilante than ever to the activities of those around them.

People have been more observant of suspicious behavior, activities and items at places like airports, bus stations and especially malls. Reporting suspicious events and activities to authorities has increased.

The passengers that were on the hijacked planes on 9/11 complied with their hijackers requests to remain in their seats because they were going to return to the airport had they had known that they would be used as missiles to kill thousands of other Americans the outcomes may have been different. Flight 93 passengers may have known about the attacks on the world trade center and fought back. Due to the heroic actions of the passengers of flight 93 that plane never reached its target.

Today and in the recent years following the terrorist attack on 9/11 Americans on board planes will and have intervened when any passenger displays suspicious and dangerous behavior. Terror attacks have been prevented by people who have become more aware of the dangers of terrorism in our modern world.

Awareness has made America a safer place since 9/11. We haven't been just lucky. Americans are no longer going to take chances on their security or safety. Awareness has made a difference.
