Short stories: Consequences

in her mind is not make believe, but its not forever either; except she will carry it forever; and they will both remain quiet in recalling their comfort they once knew called true love. They may never cuddle again but they never forget to remember the pillows made of each other and how warm it felt to fall asleep hugging tight to their lovers' knee.

It won't help for her to acknowledge the one last beer' too many that her lover knew as the smell of infidelity. Its not his fault, its the only thing that his mistrustful mind knew once the seed of suspicion was planted. The drunkenness kept her from noticing his back that was turned in pretend sleep on those nights she didn't know were numbered.

Guilted shame for taking the "D" word for granted that it would not be said and that he never meant it. The bitterness of courtroom files and lawyer bills don't leave much room for wishes. Fighting lovers quarrel over debts and assets instead of squabbles with in-laws over recipes and holiday visits .

There is no crib when lovers rock themselves to sleep, comforting their own cries instead of the cries of their newborn baby. They hope to remember their past through rose-colored glasses and to slumber in dreamless sleep.

One thing is certain at night ... they both cry when alone.

Their forever was interrupted by smoky bars and hockey games. Grieving embraced their souls and they had to eventually hope that peace would come, and it did...when they found their rose.

The moons head is hung low, knowing it is only through love so true that she can sway to the music below. The mermaid music cannot end. The lunar movement must exist for love to exist...and without love, the world cannot exist... love is moved by the tide.

Tears wash away fear when they fall, leaving behind hope. Hope brings everlasting changes and with that comes faith, and thus the movement of music box dancers is born to keep the world in tune. Music is created by lovers' for their children to hear and the twirls of ballet on hand held stages is wound with laughter to remind us of true love's bliss.

The tune that plays is for lovers and is without a somber hum. Once lovers know what the beaches embraced for them, they will hear the mermaid song... the lyrical longing of yesterday will always follow but thats when its time to find the garden of the soul. Thats when grief-stricken lovers must seek out the secret to mending their broken hearts.

By mourning time heartache will know which rose to find...

And on the other side ... a Rose grew...
