Short stories: Consequences

could not be carried any more. So they unwrapped the heaviness from around them and their bond of harmony was shaken by misguided influences. They didn't recognize their mistakes until too late. The moon embraced the sky as fear pulls the lovers apart.

While once they made love with more passion than the crashing waves in the distance, subtle green lies of envy and mistrust tore between their cosmic bond. By the time April showers were preparing to fall, she smelled the humid afternoon seabreeze and wondered... Will the whispering breeze of Cupid call out to them again? Or has the current washed away the perfection? What will destiny call with their names and how long will these lovers remain adrift?

Would she always be lost in her ocean tears?

Until the time comes to know the truth, the shores have became quiet. While she awaits response for her unanswered prayers, she counts crystalline dew drops outside that she collects with her tears. She imagines the life they might have known without the devil's wrath the lovers endured.

Then she notices that she is changing, as if frost is forming on the window in her mind's eye. Through forced blank stares, she struggles to recall everything that meant everything to her. Everything that created "them". Everything.
She began to panic as her memory blurred; but before long she realised that her broken spirit was starting to numb. Albeit her assuaged regret faded slowly, but still it faded.

She worked hard to keep her memories carefully balanced upon a private little shelf in her soul which she imagined as a window pane with knick knacks of love placed with fragile care. She called it her window pain; which is how she knew her past when she looked back on what she lost.

She tried to learn how to cherish more the moments as they pass, knowing they too, will be gone someday, but still her window pain does not heal.

She misses him.

Her sobbing breath grew into a frenzy as it met the bitter clarity of the cold world outside. Her emerald glassy eyes became so blurred she shivered from the frosty shaved ice that found her soul opaque by dawn.

Her tears that fell melted the stinging cold despair and she was lucky to find the strength to stand up again by high noon.

Then she saw it on the other side...

A rose ...
A soft, lavender rose.

Dewdrops rest on its pale indigo petals and unlike any other, this rose is without even a single thorn. She finds herself waiting with growing anticipation for the butterfly wings to land and the gentle
