Boston Celtics 07/08 Season
By Adam A.
Break Down Management - This is Danny Ainge's last chance to prove himself. Ainge traded for Wally Szczerbiak, a horrible trade that did not make much sense. He traded off the 7th pick in the 2006 draft for Sebastian Telfair, a young unproven point guard. The pick landed Portland the rookie of the year, Brandon Roy and the Celtics a disaster at point guard who was later used in the 5 player trade for Kevin Garnett. Ainge traded for Ray Allen, a proven sharp shooter and leader who, like Garnett, is hungry for a championship. Eye brows were raised by sticking with Doc Rivers after a 24 -58 record. You have to keep in mind that Ainge invested so much time in rebuilding to throw it all away for a championship run now. Desperation move as Danny Ainge's future in Boston will be determined on how Garnett, Pierce and Allen fair this season.
Break Down Team -
C, Kendrick Perkins -
Perkins can be productive in short minutes. He scored in double figures in points and rebounds last season but still needs to develope. He is often referred to as "Baby Shaq" by fans and press. Boston obviously would pleased if he could be a consistent rebounder and shot blocker.
PF, Kevin Garnett -
KG is beast down low and will stop points in the paint that killed the Celtics last season. A superstar veteran big man equals championships for any organization. KG knows this is his last chance at an NBA championship. Teams will not be able to double team him down low with Pierce and Allen on the outside. Expect KG to put up typical numbers.
SG, Ray Allen -
Allen could very well be one of the NBA's best pure shooters. Hes lethal from outside and provides Boston a threat from beyond the arc. A great team leader Allen will bring leadership and experience along with Garnett. Downfall, Allens past ankle injuries. Could miss a few games.
SF, Paul Pierce -
One of the leagues best small forwards, Pierce attacks the basket in style. He had some big games last season and led the Celtics in scoring. This will be Pierce's first time playing with proven players. Pierce won't have to be worried about being double teamed and will have the scoring pressure taken off of him by Allen and Garnett.
PG, Rajon Rondo -
Rando is impressive. Expect him to develope into a solid point guard. Rondo had high spots last season but is still unproven at point guard. Still needs to develope and outside shot and be consistent. If Rondo has a solid year, expect Boston to go far if all gears are working.
Break Down Season -
Boston will have an over 500% season. I expect a strong playoff push into the second round. If not, this seasons a bust and Ainge will be headed out the door.
