Out of the mouths of babes: The philosophical and often prophetic things children say

ALTHOUGH I think children are the most honest and sincere about their feelings. It is very hard to mimic their behavior without seeming childish and foolish. if you tell someone especially a child that you don't like them. you are opening up a big bag of worms. I'M not sure why honesty exasperates and affects people. I have come to the conclusion grown people really don't want honesty. They want their ego's stroked and their self esteem raised. My daughter can tell me she doesn't want to speak to me. If I say the same thing to her, then I am being cruel or insensitive.
Why does honesty work in their favor and not in mine? Once my nine year old daughter shouted at me , "she hated me". I RESPONDED ,"I don't like you too much either" As soon as I SAID THAT,I felt childish and silly. I would like to know if parents feelings count for something?
