Poetry: Deja Vu

The Prophet

I'm a prophet.
I've seen it all
I know the oncoming storm,
I know that I cause it.
I'm a prophet.
I've lived it all
though it has yet to come
deja vu, deja vu,
everything is happening again.
all day everyday...
the same faces and places.
I'm a prophet.
I know you.
I know your thinking "what the hell is he talking about?"
if I wasn't a prophet how did I know?
I'm not a gypsy fortune teller
a palm reader or a psychic.
I'm a prophet.
a fortune cookie.
fragile, brittle, sweet...
waiting to be cracked...
torn apart,
broken...
the storm is coming...
I'm the cause.
deja vu...
its happening again...
or is it?
maybe its me?
maybe I know nothing,
or its just an excuse
to remove my thoughts from the truth.
I'm a prophet.
I refuse to crack.
ever seen a fortune cookie made of steel?
well gaze upon the 333rd wonder of the world:
THE PROPHET OF STEEL
"faster than a speeding bullet"
"more powerful than a locomotive"
"able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"
"look up in the sky!"
no no no,
none of those things.
look here, down to earth.
Here I am...
Merely
a
prophet.
Foreseeing my own demise.
