Substance Abuse

The mystery of substance abuse and other existing addictions

Every year million's of people try drugs, weather out of curiosity or peer-pressure. Most people are curious about drugs because not too many people talk down on them, and they want to know what it is like to be "high". It is not too often that you hear your fellow class mates talk about how terrible drugs are and how no one should do them; it is usually the exact opposite. So many other people are pressured into doing drugs so they can be "cool". Many of those people do not even want to do drugs, they just want to fit in and be accepted. Whatever the reason behind trying drugs, not many people know the horrible effects it has on them, which is why so many people try them. So many people who do try drugs think "I'm not going to over dose so it will be okay" or "No one will find out so its fine that I am doing drugs" or " I won't get addicted to drugs, it's just a one time thing". Many people think that way because they do not know what drugs can actually do to them.

Most people start out trying Marijuana, also known as: grass, pot, weed, bud, Mary Jane, dope, indo, and hydro. Marijuana is often smoked and sometime eaten. So many people think marijuana is not a "bad" drug because you cannot physically become addicted to it, and because it is naturally grown, however marijuana is terrible for you. Marijuana can cause short term memory loss, depression, it kills brain cells, it can promote lung cancer, your ability to pay attention, remember things, and learning things becomes impaired. Marijuana is also considered the "gate-way" drug, often people who smoke marijuana feel as though they can handle something stronger and more dangerous.
A lot of people who smoke marijuana end up trying Cocaine, also known as: blow, nose candy, snowball, tornado, wicky stick, and perico. Cocaine is usually snorted. The negative effects of cocaine include: constricted blood vessels, temperature, violent behavior, irritability, restlessness, paranoia, and death. Cocaine is a highly additive drug, it has been around for hundreds of years. Still people think that it doesn't matter if they try it because it is only a one time thing and they can stop doing it any time they want.
Many people who smoke marijuana end up trying Heroin, also known as: smack, thunder, hell dust, big H, and nose drops. Heroin is a highly addictive drug. It is also the most abused drug. The negative effects of Heroin include: collapsed veins, cellulites, liver disease, clogged blood vessels that lead to the lungs, liver, kidneys, and brain, also heroin can cause death. Heroin can be smoked, snorted, or injected, because heroin can be injected many people may get AIDS or HIV.
Also many people who try marijuana try Methamphetamine, also known as: Speed, Meth, Ice, Crystal, Chalk, Crank, Tweak, Uppers, Black Beauties, Glass, Bikers Coffee, Methlies Quick, Poor Man's Cocaine, Chicken Feed, Shabu, Crystal Meth, Stove Top, Trash, Go-Fast, Yaba, and Yellow Ba. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that is highly abused. Many people inject Methamphetamine, therefore many people are at risk for getting HIV or AIDS. The negative effects of methamphetamine include: violent behavior, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, paranoia, hallucinations, mood disturbances, and death.
If only people knew the negative effects of the drugs they are putting in their bodies, maybe not as many people would want to try them. So many people think that these terrible things will not happen to them, but those people are wrong it can happen to anyone who tries theses drugs. Drugs are the single most terrible thing, nothing good and lasting ever come out of doing drugs.
