Lets Get it Started......
Oh yeah hockey season is fast approaching once again. Training camps and pre season action is apon us. I can feel the excitement in the air all around me as I am sure so can you.
This season is shaping up to be a spectacular one on paper already. Off season acquisitions and free agent signings have produced once again a very diverse and seemingly equalization across the board. Of course this is all on paper. Who could have predicted Philly's horrid season last year or either of the previous years Stanley Cup combatants not making the play-offs.Even the Oilers/Flames rivalry came up short last season but don't get me wrong, like the saying goes even bad pizza is good pizza and that goes for hockey as well.
I can see The ducks making another run for the cup again this year but no one is gonna lie down and let them walk over them in the slightest. Winning it all puts the proverbial bullseye on their backs and every team in the league will be gunning to knock them down a notch. I am kind of hoping they catch the Stanley Cup hangover which has hit many teams after winning the big one. Tampa,Carolina,Calgary just to name a few off the top of my head.
Well lets get to the pre season predictions shall we. I see San Jose doing a lot of damage on goal tenders GAA(goals against average)this year and taking a possible run at Lord Stanley with the perennial Detroit Red Wings trying to stop them. Detroit is bound to get it back together soon they are just too good of a franchise not to.
In the East I see Buffalo coming back madder and more determined this year after falling just short of their mark last year(not quite as short as Ottawa tho). They too will be reaping havoc on goaltenders even if they lack the fighter to protect their finishers. I hope Philly can get better and I have a soft spot for the Sens, both of whom need to make a few improvements from last seasons results. Watch for another fantastic season from Danny Heatly as long as he can avoid injury and the same goes for Mr. Spezza.
Well I don't want to write to much on the season just yet,I am going to reserve some judgment till I can see a few preseason games and watch a few teams and players in their new environments and cities. Still this year is looking to be a great year for all hockey fans young and old across the globe(reference to European opening games for some teams Detroit and Buffalo I believe)(another article in the making)So dig out your foam fingers and team jerseys and get comfortable, keep you stick on the ice and DROP THAT PUCK.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
Go Flames Go.
