Anything and everything that can help you function as a stronger, more
successful and better results-getting executive...or business person...is
well-worth your time and attention. Since originaltiy can certainly help you
in your work in a number of ways, here are specific steps you can take to
become a more creative business leader.

Creative aspects of your work are not only interesting; they do much to
help relieve tension and solve stubborn problems. To be a more creative
executive is to enjoy a fuller saisfaction in your work, to discover and act on
new and better ways to get that work done and to communicate a stronger
sense of enthusiasm among those you lead.

1. Carry a notebook at all times for notes and ideas.
Possible answsers to problems, new ideas, trends of thought that might
lead to something important and even suggestions for needed breakthroughs
in your field all may come to you at any moment. By not getting the gist of them down on paper, you may lose them. Take no chances on forgetting them. Make sure you have a pocket notebook on your person at all times.

2. Hold periodic brainstorming sessions with selected associates, colleagues,
and employees.

Brainstorming is a mutual interchange of ideas between two or more people.
Brainstorming sessions can be profitable. Several or more thinking heads are
better than one, and all useful ideas can be pooled. If such conferences are
held regularly, you're bound to come up with a number of very practical and
sound ideas for your business.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the traaditional company suggestion
box takes the place of brainstorming sessions. The trouble with the suggestion
box is that it offers no chance for idea association. In an on-the-scene,live
meeting, one person's idea, comment, remark or reaction may well trigger
greater and stronger ideas through free association.
When brainstorming sessions are held, ideas should be written down. No
evaluation of suggestions should be allowed at this time. Criticism can come
later. The time during meetings should be spent originating ideas. Encourage
everyone in the group to let his or her mind wander. Remind them that a
quantity of ideas will yield quality sooner or later.

3. Read a wide variety of material.
It's a long-proved fact that if you want to be more creative, you must read
