I own a 80G Ipod Video, the most expensive piece of technology that I have ever bought just to be used by myself, at 250 (not including the extra mains lead and the docking station)What would possess me to spend a sizeable wad on something that could be bought much cheaper. I have owned several MP3's of various calibres, ranging from the cheap but not so nasty Alba from Argos, to the hideously expensive Phillips Go Gear at 200, and possessing only 6GB of available space. I find MP3's are good for kids and anyone who isn't concerned about the pedigree of their music player as long as it does it's job. That may sound totally snobbish, and I'm really not one of those. It's not about makes or even prices, though obviously that does come into the equation, it's really about how serious you are about your music and could you really live without at least 20,000 songs on your device? I am not some arty farty airhead, I'm a single mum on a tight budget, who could've probably used the money to better use, but I love my music, I'm totally passionate about it and I found that basic MP3's just didn't hold enough music to satisfy me. Yes, obviously you can't play all 20,000 songs in one day, but the choice is there, some days it could be a Supertramp day and others a Beyonce day and you know there's the capacity to hold virtually all the songs that you dream of owning, without resorting to owning 2 or 3 smaller capacity MP3's. Quality of soundwise, some MP3's can be as good as Ipod's but I've yet to find one better. I have not had experience of other Ipod's, only the Video Ipod, but I feel the future of portable entertainment is in good hands with Apple, and maybe one day they will find a way to produce cheaper Ipods and MP3's so that choosing between products will not be such a headache
