As a current college student myself, I must say that school is both difficult and stressful, and as a result of this stress, I am always on the lookout for anything that serves as effective stress relief. Maybe I want a new 50" plasma tv, maybe I need a new computer, a new bike, or a new pair of skis. The possibilities are endless. Can I afford these things right now? No way! But my credit card says I can.
The bottom line is that people who are young and stressed out are constantly looking for the next high to help them cope, and this quite often means buying things. Credit card companies know this and target college students ruthlessly. As a result, many students find themselves in debt upon graduating, and they think that their new and soon-to-be-had "high-paying job for college graduates" will make short work of their financial troubles. This is not always the case, and it takes many recent graduates years to finally become financially stable.
Therefore, it would be nice if credit card companies could help us out by keeping the temptation away until after graduation at least. Trust me, there will be plenty of time for blowing money on mindless purchases after we're done with school.
