Florida's hidden beaches: Where to go and why

Florida is well know as one of the top summer beach vacation spots. It's golden beach lined coast has drawn everyone from college spring breakers to granny and gramps . The only problem with such a beautiful state is for those that would like a quiet secluded beach vacation.

However, not only can Florida provide you with a hot night life, (Miami), a great family vacation, (Orlando), and and educational get-away, (the Everglades), but if you look in the right places, it can give you a secluded piece of paradise the likes of which is rare state side. My personal favorites are in the Keys.

Islamorada one of the first of the Keys, is a beautiful island. It has several small beach side resort. You can open the door of your room and walk barefoot onto the beach. Islamorada is only a couple hour drive from Miami, though it feels like you've driven straight to heaven.

My favorite hidden beach is hidden in plain site. In Key West, you can stand at Mallory Square and look straight at it as the sunsets. The reason this beach is so perfectly hidden is it is on Wisteria Island, known to locals as Christmas Tree Island. Wisteria Island is right in Garrison Bight Harbor and you need a small boat to get you there. This small island does not have the softest sand, nor is it the most beautiful in the world. It is the best because very few people ever make it out to the island, so you are pretty much guaranteed a relaxing secluded beach visit. This island is for those who are willing to truely go out of their way for the best sunset in Florida.
For a place to lay your head, go down to Duval Street and look for Duval Inn. It is the nicest place I have ever seen. You would never guess that just outside the gate people are doing the Duval Bar Crawl. Lush tropical plants and a beautiful swimming pool fill the gated off shared area for visitors. A hammock hangs near the garden beckoning you to sit and read.

Whether you choose to completely run away from the night life to Islamorada or choose to have the best of both worlds in Key West, the Florida Keys has something for everyone. If you enjoy fishing, diving, shopping, swimming with dolphin, or just rel can relaxing, you can find it all down Route 1.
