I can only speak for Hurricane, cause I live in a tropical island. A small island in the Caribbean called St. Lucia. our island economy is first base on tourism and second agriculture we export bananas.
when a category two (2) hurricane hits the island it is devastating cause the island coast gets bartered and for one, almost all our hotels are located on the coast. Banana plants don't have the stem strength to withstand wind of over 60 miles per hour so you can only imagine.
I have even seen tropical storms thats before turning into hurricanes destroy seventy percent of our agriculture. We are an Island of mountains and valleys and most villages and towns are located in the valleys so can you even imagine fourteen inches (14") of rain in three hours. In that time St. Lucia had become a national disaster area. About 150,000 people inhabit St Lucia with 60,000 living in its capital, Castries.
St. Lucia is the sort of island that travelers to the Caribbean dream about,a small, lush tropical gem that is still relatively unknown. One of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it is located midway down the Eastern Caribbean chain, between Martinique and St. Vincent, and north of Barbados. St. Lucia is only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, with a shape that is said to resemble either a mango or an avocado (depending on your taste). The Atlantic Ocean kisses its eastern shore, while the beaches of the west coast owe their beauty to the calm Caribbean Sea.
In 1980 the Island was hit by hurricane Allen destroying 70% of the Islands Agriculture. And that was a category 3 hurricane so can you imagine a category 4 and 5? so I do think that hurricanes are more devastating than tornado's.
You must also remember that hurricanes come with rain, wind, lighting, surge, earthquake, and all the other attributes.
