Email etiquette for internal business communication

Rules For Email Etiquette

- Do not use "e-mail backgrounds" as their size slows down the network;

- Include your name and details at the end of the mail. This can be done by typing them in or via the automatic signature method;

- Do not attach unnecessary files;

- Do not over-use the "high-priority" option;

- Do not write in CAPITALS (this is regarded as impolite by most readers);

- Do not overuse the "reply-to-all" option;

- Do not forward chain letters;

- Only request delivery and read-receipts for urgent and confidential mails;

- Do not copy a message or attachment without permission;

- Do not use email to discuss confidential information;

- Type in a meaningful subject in the "subject" area;

- Do not forward or send libelous, defamatory, offensive, racist or obscene remarks;

- Don't forward hoaxes, viruses or chain letters;

- Keep your language gender neutral;

- Don't reply to spam;

- Use the CC: field sparingly; and

- Avoid printing emails save a tree!
