Leaving never makes a sound
Ghosts are dancing, you in fright
Another word to bring you down
Ripping, biting, gnashing teeth
Kisses felt without a breath
Tossing turning in your sleep
Love is both your fear and grief

I got off work late,
Now I have to walk home late,
How long will it take?
I ask the moon and continue the pace,

I washed my body
because dirt was there
I chopped it all off
Maybe it was my hair?
I threw away those high heels

I said no, but you still ignore me
Not even my best friend believes my story
I said no, what else could I do

I can paint up my face and ruby my lips
I can shake it so you wonder
wiggle my walk,

Too many of my sisters have been violated,
Some are afraid to say a word in fear they
may go unheard.
