Traveling in economy class is a reality for the better part of the us who travel. Economy class seems to be built for those who are small in size and stature! If you've ever flown on an Asian airline you'll know exactly what I'm referring to. Economy class has one major bonus, it's affordable. Other then that the perks you may or may not get depend on the airline you fly with. Following are a few tips to help make your economy class travel more amusing and comfortable.
>There is nothing worse then being seated beside, in front or behind someone who is a loud talker, snores, is drunk or worst of all, all three combined! It can be a blood-boiling experience. Bring a CD player, MP3 player, or whatever you use, along for the ride so you don't end up throttling someone. If you've never tried the narrated version of a book, they're pretty good! Try it out as music can get old, especially on a really long flight. If all else fails resort to ear plugs that you remembered to bring along just in case you were seated beside someone highly irritating.
>More and more budget airlines means less and less conveniences. Consider this when flying. Find out exactly what is included in your flight or, more importantly, what isn't included! Bringing along a travel pillow or something similar can be a life-saver. If anything, you can put it between you and the guy who was loud and is now drunk and snoring as he keeps falling over onto your shoulder, drooling! Drool catcher, pillow, it's all relative!
>Bring along some snacks and a drink. Contrary to popular belief you can still carry on water bottles but they must be purchased in the secure boarding area. Most of us enjoy food and get cranky when we don't have it. One of the most annoying things on a flight can be the amount of time it takes to get a drink and a snack after take-off. Get ahead of the game and stock up.
>Take a sweater or dress in layers. No matter how blazing hot it is outside when you're departing it will no doubt be freezing on the plane. It's the same concept in theaters, malls and buses. For some reason air conditioning gets cranked to arctic proportions. If you're the type who can never cool off enough make sure to wear a cool t-shirt underneath your sweater so you can strip down. Just don't get carried away or it will definitely be the worst flight ever!
>Reading is the obvious one to those who like to read. A great book that's fast-paced and easy to barrel through is your best bet. Never fail to consider those annoying people who just won't leave you in peace! Best not to bring a book that requires heavy concentration unless you plan to read in the middle of the night.
>A journal or something to write in is handy too. Best of all are magazines and newspapers that require less of a commitment. A variety of topics makes them easy to flip through. Don't forget about trusty crosswords, Sodoku or other puzzles to keep your idle hands occupied.
>Arrange for a window seat if you prefer it. If the hate the middle avoid it at all costs or you will be a miserable mess! In the window seat, as a last resort, you can stare out the window for hours. Plus you'll get the best view when taking off and landing.
>Best of all, travel with a friend and then you always have someone to chat up!
