Key steps to stopping terrorism

by Shinobi

Created on: September 11, 2007

Terrorism is here to stay. If Afghanistan and Iraq proves anything - the act of terrorism cannot be stopped. Anybody can commit a terrorist act, hours before the armed forces arrive. It's unlikely a civilized country would be able to thwart every terrorist cells operating around the globe. As a world body, we have a better chance of disrupting a "major event" of terrorism due to the length of time needed by terrorists to plan and execute it. It gives the intelligence communities time to gather specific details or put in a spy, a mode and learn the profile of these individuals. While that method may be touted as an effective tool in combating terrorism, it's can turn primitive in the next realization of a terror attack on the scale of 9/11. Constantly upgrading is the key.

The war with terrorists is not in the same sense as fighting a war with another country. Terrorists can simply wait on the next "security" talks that spills out of the media - giving away insights on how to adjust and adapt to security measures taken by leaderships from the White House, The Pentagon, the IntelCenter, the National Estimate, the Government Accountability Offices, and Congress. There's simply to much information coming out of the media and keeping the terrorists informed, to give ourselves a real chance at stopping terrorism. The straight-forward thinking of "taking the fight to them" is too adequate and time-consuming to net "real" results. We need a more "hip" approach - a strategy constantly changing, constantly improvising to keep them off balance. We need to be flexible and think outside the box in term of established 'Rules Of Engagements' or the expectation of "war" in the general sense.

We're fighting an invisible enemy that can attack and disappear simultaneously. An enemy that's highly trained in ambushing, setting roadside bombs and individually, can inflict dozen of deaths in a single act. This is why we have to do things differently and keep a "changing" strategy constantly moving and upgraded to keep them from settling in a singular, anticipated mind-set that brings more death to our soldiers. As we continue to take the war to them, we also have to win the war on surrounding circumstances that's making these terrorists formidable.

Propaganda is an effective tool to stop terrorism. Our propaganda should start from the homeland. It is America that the Arab, Al-Quaeda and the enemies watches everyday. We have to refrain from manipulating the reality in Iraq. General
