Hurricanes are in my opinion, deadlier than tornadoes. Hurricanes cause more damage and last longer than the tornado. Even though tornadoes can destroy a town, Hurricanes are more deadly and ferocious and can cause a lot of damage over a wider span of area. Hurricanes start out over the warm waters of the ocean and people can get prepared for the hurricane that is coming.

Hurricanes are the worst form of weather there is. Florida and the east coast are the easy targets for hurricanes when hurricanes come from the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf Coast. They can reach wind speeds of over 200 mph or higher and destroy anything and everything in its path. Once living in Florida, every summer, from May to November, people have to be on the lookout and be prepared to evacuate if one heads your way. I used to live in Florida and we would be prepared for anything when one headed toward Florida or the area around Florida.

Hurricanes can cause property damage that can make insurance skyrocket. Hurricanes devastate people's lives every year, destroying homes, businesses and lives when they come through. When a Hurricane forms, it is just a tropical low and if it gets stronger, then it becomes a depression. When it gets past 75 or so in winds, that is when it gets a name and is watched very closely by all involved. When it gets even more stronger, then it is labeled a Hurricane and people began to prepare more, just in case something big happens and it heads their way.

When Katrina grew so strong and hit New Orleans with such force that the levees broke, the people and the government were so in shock. She destroyed everything in her path, nothing was like it was. We were so innocent of what these terrible storms could do until Katrina hit. Yes, we had Hurricane Andrew, but compared to Katrina, we were not ready to handle this one. We knew what they could do, but until Katrina, we were naive and had no clue. We do know now what these storms can do and hopefully be prepared for what is to come.

Hurricanes pull more of a punch then tornadoes. Hurricanes tend to spread themselves over a broad area and do more damage than a tornado. Tornadoes tend to be restricted to a certain area and do the most damage in that area. Hurricanes cost more in property damage than any other kind of weather related phenomenon. Tornadoes are inching closer to hurricanes in being worse kind of weather. Global warming is making both of these kinds of storms worse and more property is being destroyed because of it.
