Poetry: Family

Sure, when we met he was behind bars,
What can I say?
I just loved him anyway.
A caged up animal,
Just wanting to break free
I knew from the start,
He'd never love me.
And when he saw my daughter
With her sparkling, greenest eyes
He lost total interest in me,
Though it came as no surprise
My beautiful daughter
She had him in the palm of her hand
It was love at first sight,
But he still had full command
Yet, there he'd sit still
Listening to her softly spoken word
The music of her lovely voice,
Enjoying every syllable of what he heard
It was unusual for him, for one minute,
To stay still at all
But she need only mention his name,
And he'd jump to the call
I saw he was out for all he could get
But all of his whims, my daughter met
On him, she spent every penny she'd earn
Totally ungrateful, but she wouldn't learn
Stuff that she gave him he'd hide and store
Although he had plenty
He'd still ask her for more
His name was fuzzy,
And he wasn't big at all
About two inches of white fluff
Curled up like a cute little ball
But one more moment of your ear
While I make the relationship much more clear
Michelle, my daughter, and her favorite pet
Beautiful moments, I shall never forget.
