The matter of former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove resigning before testifying under oath in front of the U.S. Congress is another harsh blow to the rule of law. Karl Rove should not be allowed to simply return to his cushy home life without being held responsible for his actions in the Bush administration.
Mr. Rove has a responsibility to give full and accurate testimony under oath regarding his participation in the December 7, 2006 firings of the nine U.S. Attorneys. Our political system, whether described as a Constitutional Republic or a Representative Democracy, depends in the main on honesty, accountability and transparency in government - including our elected officials and their appointees.
The firing of the nine U.S. Attorneys was done inappropriately for partisan political reasons under questionable conditions and with complete disregard for the rule of law. As a citizen, I would like to see Karl Rove, the former chief political strategist to the President, step up and show the public that he is responsible for his actions and for the actions of the people under his influence.
Mr. Rove, needs to testify under oath before Congress and provide them with the subpoenaed documents they have ordered him to produce. He is not above the law. We the people cannot allow any one in government to ignore the laws that govern us all. Karl Rove must testify. We should accept nothing less.
