Dogs are such loyal creatures. When you come home at night they act as if you're the only person in the world they want to see and when you leave in the morning they look as if their hearts would break. Where in the cat world can you find this kind of devotion?

I have three dogs and, to them, I am father and master wrapped into one. Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing they will be with me. Even if I go to the toilet they will follow me as if they fear I will escape when they're not looking. A cat will just turn its head and think at last, the seat's all mine now!'

My dogs sleep with us. They will fight each other for prime space; usually by our heads where we can wrap our arms around them and give them a fuss. This always elicits a sloppy response as they lick our faces in what approximates a kiss. When was the last time a cat kissed you?

My dogs will dance and act like the happiest creatures in the world as soon as we open the drawer where the leads are kept. They will then chase each other, frolic in the local lake and act as if they live lives of sheer joy, once on a walk. No cat will ever have this reaction.

My dogs will sit when told, stay on command and come when called. They will do this whatever the circumstances and environment they are in. They will walk to heel and hang on your every word. When was the last time you saw a cut accomplish any of these feats?

I think people are generally divided into two camps. One camp loves dogs and dislikes cats; the other likes cats and dislikes dogs. I have grown up with both and, for me, there can be no competition; dogs provide everything you could ever need in a pet and can become true companions. This can't be said of cats, which is why dogs will always make the better pet.
