To err is human, to let your underwear show, disgusting!
Underwear is many things to many people. To some it's an unfortunate fact of life, to others it is a way of informing us of their love for Bugs Bunny.
I personally do not enjoy seeing a stranger's underwear. I do not think it that it shows how "original" or "unique" the person is and I do not like seeing the cute and innocent cartoon characters whose company I enjoyed as a child stretched over some adults rump.
However I do believe that legally banning showing underwear is wrong. People have a right to express themselves and a right to be individuals. No democratic (meaning: "for the people") government has the right to enforce a legally binding dress code, since an individuals choice of clothing is exactly that, a choice. Democracies do not force choices on their citizens.
Clothing is a very subjective matter so if one item of clothing was ever banned from view calls for more bans would follow. Could your favorite pair of comfy treads be next to be outlawed? What about those pants that don't fit well but you wear anyway? A ban on something as trivial as public underwear could lead to bans of religious symbols and symbols of national pride, causing untold problems.
We must also bear in mind that we have to learn to tolerate each other since there is not one person on this planet that does not offend, irritate, upset, aggravate, trouble or irk another person with behavior that they consider normal.
I would not like to live in a society where the public display of underwear is banned but any Tom, Dick or Harry could walk around with a revolver or pistol strapped to the belt that covers the "offensive" fabric.
