individual is more oriented to their view of the world, their own developmental life cycle and an inherent understanding of their own inner world and outer world.
In western culture, we have lost our rituals. While we have embraced fascinating new technologies, amazing advancements in surgical procedures and nutrition, but have we truly dealt with the core issue we have lost contact with our own inner selves and natural programming? Do we think by making ourselves look and feel younger this could possibly influence inherent soul programming? While we have advanced the way we care for our biological body, we have lost sight of the fact we can look marvelous at ninety and still have no influence on the fact we were programmed to die at ninety. So what implications would this have on spiritual emergencies versus spiritual emergence. Most likely, the individual is disoriented not to self but also to relationship to the whole. Hence, the individual has lost orientation to any form of "container". If we have lost our "orientation" it produces consequences mentally, spiritually and physically.
One good example of an individual experiencing or feeling "loss of orientation" is the frequent diagnosis of bipolar disorder. It seems over the last few years this diagnosis has become prevalent. So how could it be the incidence of diagnosis rises so quickly? A few possible explanations: first lack of providers truly understanding the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual diagnostic criteria. Increasing substance abuse which would be more correctly diagnosed as substance induced mood disorder. Other considerations include ruling out metabolic disorders, other physical causes and finally spiritual chaos. This brings us to our point, could it be the human psyche is undergoing many changes coupled with increasing speed of all forms of communication resulting in forms of chaos in individuals mimicking bipolar disorder? In children and youth we have even more challenging diagnostic issues. Coupled with diverse parenting, changes in family structure, a generation of orphaned children ( see article Star, 2007 Children ,Youth and Adults: Archetypes and Symbols), ruling out physical causes, developmental disorders and of course ruling out any issues of child abuse while simultaneously considering the possibility of spiritual experience.
Future Considerations:
It is clear the fields of psychiatry, psychology and spirituality are experiencing synthesis, integration and changes in how we
