Boston Celtics
Head Coach: Doc Rivers
2006-2007 Record: 24-58, 5th in the Atlantic Division
Key Losses: Al Jefferson, Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green
Key Additions: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Eddie House, Scot Pollard, James Posey
Projected Lineup:
Center: Kendrick Perkins
When playing full time, Kendrick Perkins has been a capable rebounder and shot blocker. Once he became a fulltime starter in March 2007, he averaged nearly seven rebounds and more than a block per game. He was asked to do more than he was capable of at times, but when he is able to be a fifth scoring option and focus on defense and rebounding, Perk can be a very effective role player.
Forward: Kevin Garnett
When TNT aired its expansion of the 1996 version of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players, one of the ten added players on that list was Kevin Garnett. Garnett did not become what he is through his scoring skills (although he is an excellent scorer) - he is one of the top rebounders the NBA has ever seen, his defensive ability has earned him eight appearances on the NBA's All Defensive teams, and he has court vision and passing ability that are unheard of for a big man. He has led the league in rebounding for each of the last four seasons and he is consistently the leader or near the top of the leader board in assists by a power forward or center.
Forward: Paul Pierce
While rarely given the credit that is bestowed upon the Kobe Bryants and Tracy McGradys of the world, Paul Pierce is certainly in their talent level. Pierce is already sixth all time in points scored in the history of the storied Celtics franchise having averaged 25 points or more per game for five of his last seven seasons. He has done this through efficient play: he has scored 1.34 points per field goal attempt for his career and 1.42 P/FG over the last three years. Despite spending significant time playing as a guard, Pierce has consistently grabbed six or more rebounds per game along with career numbers of about four assists and one and a half steals per game.
Guard: Ray Allen
Acquired on draft day, Ray Allen instantly improved the Celtics' offense by giving Paul Pierce the help of a proven reliable second scoring option - and what a second scoring option - Allen has averaged at least 20 points per game for nine consecutive years. He is one of the best perimeter shooters in the NBA, ranking second all time in three point field goals made. Along with his shooting, his ability
