While I have never been known to have a green thumb, I do have very good luck with philodendron. This leafy, plant that grows long stems, like a vine, is beautiful in a hanging basket or a beautiful pot on a plant stand. It grows well anywhere and needs very little attention.
The philodendron is one of the most popular of all house plants. It is best not to over water the philodendron and allow it to dry out between waterings.
This house plant loves the humidity of Florida, where I live, but if you don't live in a humid area, don't forget to mist it two or three times a week. This plant loves misting even when you don't need to actually water the plant.
Also, it is very easy to take a start from the philodendron. Just break off the plant where there is a joint. These are very easy to see. The bottom of a leaf stem where it joins the main stem of the plant is the best place to break the leaf. Just put it in a clear glass jar with cool water and watch for the roots to take shape. Once you have a good root system, it's time to plant!
You can decorate your home with this leafy plant, spend minimal time and enjoy watching it turn into a beautiful vine. Remember, to pass you cuttings on to your friends and family. You can make a very special gift from your original starts of your philodendron by planting them in a special pot that you decorated yourself.
