The pay a person receives should be commensurate with their ability to do their job. Their sex should have nothing to do with their pay scale. If a male and a female are both doing the same job and have equal capability, then their pay should be the same. But, personally, I can't see a woman having the upper body strength a man has. Therefore; any physically challenging job, a man should be paid more for unless a woman can prove her worth. By physically challenging I mean firefighters, construction workers, etc.

My husband works in a metal-stamping factory. They pay all employees the same rate based on term of service regardless of sex. The unfortunate thing is that none of the women can run the heavy jobs. Besides this, there are only about five women who have been there for any length of time. The rest quit after complaining about how hard the work is. The men in the shop run all of the back-breaking jobs for the same wage the women get paid to run the light jobs. To me this isn't equality.

So my answer is no, companies shouldn't be required to pay women the same as men.
