To legally make a good income working from home, you must first have some knowledge, skill, or product that is in good demand. While you can be successful by just jumping right into the process of bringing in an income from home, it is advisable that you research and develop your idea, products, or skills so that you will have a better infrastructure to build on. Otherwise, you might find yourself with a dysfunctional business model, lack of money from mistakes or expenses, or unexpected bills. Setting up the structure for the way you will be bringing in your income is an important step. It can either make you a large profit or lose you possible profit because of an oversight. Part of that structure or most of that structure, depending on how you'll be bringing in the income, is going to be created by the clients you will be serving. Their needs are what will make or break your home business most of the time. Of course bad or no planning and unfortunate events can often lead even a good business idea to the junkyard. Think of many of the failed internet startups of the 90's. They didn't take into account that they might be making millions one year and less than nothing the next because of the economic environment. Part of their failures were in not planning for contingent events such as an economic downturn.

So to sum up, it is best to plan, have a infrastructure, and have a client base or contacts to start one so that you can properly structure your business. There are many small and large details to take care of from making it legal (as in getting a business license and making sure to be aware of and follow restrictions on your trade and not making the IRS your enemy) to setting up the payment process. Proper research and planning, plus networking and using the knowledge and resources of others, is the way to get started on a very successful beginning to earning a good income from home!
