Helium Dos & Don'ts

How to maintain and improve quality at Helium

Helium has a ways to go in the quality department. There is a lot of good information here and quite a few interesting articles, but there is also a lot of nonsense and badly-written articles that have nothing to do with the category. There are several things you can do about this, as this is an interactive site.

The first thing that can be done is to write good articles. Some topics are just opinions on some issue, so if you have an opinion, express it clearly and succinctly. It is important to get your point across as soon as possible before the reader loses interest. The reason anyone comes to a site like this is to learn something or see what people think. It's not very often a person will be interested in your life story, interesting as that may be. Try to stay on topic.

The second thing you can do is to honestly rate articles. This means you have to read articles. Often the articles will be totally boring and uninteresting. Try to pay attention. At least scan the main headings and see which contains the best information. Be sure to flag any bad articles for removal. This will help maintain the quality of the articles available for a reader.

You don't have to be an expert on some subject to have an opinion. There is not a lot of highly technical information on Helium. You have personal knowledge from your life that may be helpful to a person looking at this site, so express yourself and share with the reader. If you have trouble writing clearly, take a class. You might even learn some writing tips by reading this site, which is the whole reason Helium even exists, right?
