I enjoy a firm instructor
talk of precision
makes my spine squirm
strict and picky
quick to discipline
to correct
to instruct
to show
so I can grow
rough and stern
merciless
I am the tempered steel
beneath your hammer
shape me
smooth me
hone me
Make me gleam & glisten
teach me
I'll listen
Mesmerized by your words
caught in a spell
of seeking
knowledge sought
purity won
catalyze my brain
until it pops
bends
and melts
to your will
and I spring up
sharper than ever

Once Melissa and I waited
Overeager first year teachers
Common courage calling us
From the darkened copy room
Overeager
