Pay yourself back for paying those bills!

Credit card companies are consistently in a race for market share. It seems that everyone and their uncle is constantly getting solicitations by phone and snail mail to apply for their credit cards.

Here's a tip:
Take all of your regular bills (gas, electric, phone, cable, even mortage and auto and insurance) and have them billed to a credit card that has some sort of reward system. These are regular bills that you are paying on a monthly basis and so you have budgeted accordingly to have them paid monhtly.

Many credit card companies offer some sort of rewards program. This may include things like cash back (Discover), frequent flier miles, or gift certificates for merchandise, services or restaurants.

Some things you want to look out for would include any sort of annual fee, when the credit card statement payment is due (make sure it coincides with your monthly cash flow), and what the finance fees are.

Some great things that you can do with the rewards would be to take a trip or even save them up all year so you can cash them in to give as gifts for the holidays. I have done this for several years and have given away numerous gift cards, got free airfare and even a Coach purse.

You are going to pay those bills anyhow, might as well reap whatever rewards you can from it!
