Speaking as a fairly recent high school graduate (2005), I can say that the SAT did nothing to prepare me for my years in college. I did not learn anything of value, nothing that will stick to me for the years to come. The only thing that I could say that I gained from this experience was how to study obsessively for a test for months, only to promptly forget everything you learned about the moment it was over... which, perhaps, helped me prepare for my AP classes, but not much else.
Honestly, why is a standardized test so important- especially for going into a university? Surely the student's grades, classes, and even his or her extracurricular activities speak for them more than any standardized test could. For the most part, it would only take a slightly larger amount of effort for admissions in college to find out the same information about the student. If you want to know how their reading and writing skills are, have a look at their English grades, at their personal essays. Do you want to know how good they are at math? Why don't you simply have a peek at their math grades, and their level of proficiency?
