The Internet has opened so many doors for everyone. Renting a vacation home is not a new idea but with the availability of the Internet many people are just now discovering how wonderful a vacation rental home experience can be for vacation accommodations.
Vacation rental homes are listed on sites such as VRBO, Homeaway, Vacation Home Rentals and Great Family Rentals to name a few of the biggies. These sites act as "portals" with owners paying a fee to list their home for rent. Most vacation homeowners also have their own website that often provides more detail than the listing site allows. Some of the listing sites allow for Guest Reviews which gives potential renters a glimpse of what its really like to stay in the home.
Vacation rental owners as a group take a great deal of pride in their properties and work hard to promote and "sell" their home to you for your stay. It's been my experience that dealing directly with the homeowner as opposed to a management company is the way to go. The owner has a large investment in the home and they want their guests to be satisfied with the accommodations.
To find your "perfect" rental home decide where you want to go and what your requirements are as far as number of bedrooms, amenities, etc. Visit one of the listing sites and start looking. Make a list of homes that look promising and send inquires directly to the owners with the dates you wish to stay. Owners will reply with availability and cost enabling you to make your final decision. Most homeowners will accept payment by check or credit card and usually require payment in full in advance of your stay. As your vacation approaches the owners will then send you information and directions to the home and how to retrieve your keys. Many owners that live a distance from their rental property hire a management company to oversee the home and act as a contact should you require assistance during your stay.
So get online and start planning your next vacation in the perfect vacation home for you!
