Stay at home vs. working moms: Why the debate is irrelevant

The debate is on. Which type of mother is best? Will it be the stay at home mom, who spends her days taking care of the kids and home needs, or the working mom who spends her day at a job, earning an income to take care of the kids and home needs. Break out the boxing gloves, because here we go!

Let's start with the stay at home mom. She has chosen to dedicate her life to taking care of her family from home. A typical day for this mother would include:

1. Getting the Children Dressed
2. Making Sure the Children Brush Their Teeth and Hair
3. Making Breakfast
4. Feeding the Baby (for those with smaller children)
5. Packing Lunches (for those with children in school)
6. Taking the Children to School
7. Cleaning the Kitchen
8. Washing and Putting Away Laundry
9. Changing Diapers
10. Playing Games With the Children
11. Making Lunch
12. Feeding the Baby
13. Cleaning the Kitchen
14. Reading Stories to the Children
15. Taking a Trip to the Park
16. Picking the Children up From School
17. Making After-School Snacks
18. Going Over Homework
19. Making Dinner
20. Cleaning the Kitchen
21. Making Sure the Children Brush their Teeth
22. Putting the Children to Bed

As you can see, the job of a stay at home mother does not have the normal 8-hour work period, it is a non-stop job. This particular job is the best option because the mother gets to spend time in the home, and is able to spend limitless time with her children.
As a downside, since this job doesn't have a start and end time, it can be quite exhausting, and where a regular routine may begin with spending vast amounts of quality time with the children, that may not happen every day. Every person (yes, even mothers) need a break now and again.
Some stay at home moms have given the job a bad name, by being the mother who sends their kids off to school and lazes about, watching soap operas, or sits their kids in front of a TV so they can have time to themselves.

Let's take a look at the working mom. She has chosen to stick with a career that makes her happy, and that also supports her family financially. A typical day for this mother might include:

1. Getting the Children Dressed
2. Making Sure the Children Brush Their Teeth and Hair
3. Making Breakfast
4. Feeding the Baby (for those with smaller children)
5. Packing Lunches (for those with children in school)
6. Taking the Children to School/Daycare
7. Going to work
