Child safety on the Internet: Tips to help parents keep kids safe

No child is safe on the Internet alone! It is just that drastic. Parents are responsible for assuring that their kids are safe just as they are in other areas of their lives. Would you allow a stranger to talk with your child, when you are not aware what that person is saying to your child? Internet safety works the same way.

The Internet is one of the greatest inventions since I have been around, because it helps us in so many areas; but it can be just as dangerous for kids who innocently open themselves for criminal behavior. It is so pervasive, that police are hired to watch for potential child abusers on the Internet, and many have been caught.

There are many ways to prevent children from possible violations, and Providers have devised some of these programs; as well as others who work in the area of child abuse. The following three programs are some of the most popular that parents are using:

1) "Help your Child Surf the Internet Safely" - (www.webroot.com). This program sells for the reasonable cost of $39.95. It is a software control that gives parents the power to filter objectional web content, manage the child's computer and Internet time, and stay informed about the websites that your child visits.

They state this program will provide you with the peace of mind that your children are not viewing inappropriate Internet content. The great benefit is that it can be installed on up to three computer and supports an unlimited number of users on each PC.

2) 2007 Software Report (www.monitoringsoftwarereviews .org) Cost $97.00. This program allows you to see all web pages visited, read sent and received email, and also see both sides of Internet monitoring. This program is great because parents will be able to keep an eye on things from anywhere. (For example, from your office).

The program has an invisibility program. When the child believes no one is looking; the parent can see what the child is doing. For example, if an adult is pretending he is a child by asking uncomfortable questions or making inappropriate statements; you can immediately intercede - even if you are at work.

Having ability to block is a must, so do get a program that has some form of contextual blocker. It is very simple to install this program on the computer that you want to monitor. The child's activities are silently recorded and securely copied into your on-line account. You can view this information from anywhere.
