Health, education, crime prevention, employment, welfare, security, economy, environmental matters; these are the issues that should be dealt with by government, not how people choose to wear their pants! Which clothes people wear and how they wear them is a personal choice; to ban pants due to the lack of belt and a glimpse of underwear would be an infringement of personal freedom.

How can an article of clothing devoid of any racist, obscene or offensive remarks on it be offensive? It can't, it's just pieces of material sewn together. Funny, maybe, pathetic, perhaps, but not offensive.

OK, I fully understand that some people have no desire to see someone else's underwear (or lack of) protruding from above their unbelted pants. But you know what? Just like the wearer of those pants has a choice, so do they. They can look the other way. No-one says they must stare fixedly at whatever is poking out above the waistband of the pants. There are styles of dress that I don't like and I'm sure not everyone would like everything I wear, but never would I try to get their choice of clothing banned. If you don't like what someone is wearing, look away.

Where would this banning of so called offensive clothing stop? I can just hear the cries of "Arrest her, I can see through her top", "Arrest him, I can see his boxers". How many builders would then get arrested, heck they've been wearing drooping pants displaying things most would rather not see, since long before they became a fashion statement! It would give a whole new meaning to the term "fashion police". How could anyone want to live in a world like that?

Also how exactly would this be enforced? How low would be deemed too low? Are police officers to walk the streets armed with tape measure so that when they sight an offender with unbelted, baggy pants which show their under wear, they could whip out said tape measure to see how far below hip level the pants are? What then? Arrest them with a triumphant cry of "Book him Danno, they're four inches below!", and how could you prove the bagginess was intentional and not due to sudden weight loss? It would give new depth to the phrase "May be taken down and used in evidence"!

Meanwhile, as this serious offender, a scourge on society is being arrested, down the street some poor old lady is mugged by a "respectable" person whose trousers are duly belted at waist level with not a glimpse of underwear to be seen. There are no police to respond to the calls for help, as they're all to busy arresting those whose boxers are showing. I think not.

I hope the world is not coming to the state where people would seriously consider banning article of clothing. If it is I think I'll buy myself some low slung baggy pants, skulk off into the sunset then whip off my belt and wave it in the air as I jump off the end of this crazy world!
